If you have the crossover on the sub "dialed up" at all, you can easily locate the position of the sub. While bass is somewhat non-directional, it is always best to subwoofers in front of you. Corner subwoofer placement increases the apparent bass output, but can be overly "boomy". If you need a lot of apparent bass (not necessarily the deepest bass), try placing your sub in a corner. If you are on a tight budget and can't afford a huge sub, or have a big room - this will increase your perceived bass.
